I don't always realize where inspiration comes from until later. These illustrations are from two of my favorite books as a young child. I hadn't realized until recently that Maurice Sendak was so directly influenced by Winsor MCCay!
I love seeing this. It's interesting how sometimes inspiration comes from our subconscious; yet when we later take a step back, we see the roots in things we loved as children.
